Zach Condon, lead singer of Beirut
Zach Condon, the founder of Beirut, has a rich vibrato that easily distinguishes him from other singers today. Beirut has a laid back, folksy sound - emphasized both in its unique lineup of instruments and Condon's classic voice. Their music throws back to a different era; listening to them, I can't help but daydream of lying on a sunny beach in southern Europe. Listen to my favorite song by Beirut, "Elephant Gun," here.

Perfume Lost by Emir Ozsahin
A black and white masterpiece. The shimmering light and stark contrast is almost too much to take in at once, and lends to the feeling that the focus seems to shift around with the phantasmic water. Seemingly at the edge of the world, Ozsahin turns the model into a sleeping goddess, fearless — or oblivious — of the black void that lies beyond.

Looks from Viktor & Rolf FW 09
Viktor & Rolf has to be my overall favorite collection for the FW 09 menswear season. The look is perhaps more contained than years past, but elements of their signature quirky style still shine through in the details. The high-top sneakers, the muted palette with a hint of color, the slightly untraditional cuts all showcase a refreshingly casual take on classic preppiness. Plus, their increased sensitivity for practicality is much appreciated in a not-so-golden year — even if it is just a result of the new ownership's commercial-minded interests.

Black Diamond by Lars Raun
I'm starting this blog with one of my favorite photographs of all time, Black Diamond by Lars Raun. The photo was taken at The Royal Library in Copenhagen, Denmark. The marble-like texture of the sky, the intensely golden lights, and the surreal vanishing point all offer the viewer a perfect escape into the night.
